Apple Engineer [Posted: 09/02/10]
Role description:
Working as part of a team, you will be responsible for the daily running of SL Electrotech's highly reputable Apple Service department.
Daily responsibilities include diagnosing faulty hardware and software, ordering the correct replacement modules from Apple and/or other sources, designing and building Apple platforms and imaging Macs.
You will also be responsible for maintaining the Apple workstations that make up the offices infrastructure.
This role is primarily customer facing, dealing with simple telephone enquiries, booking in machines in and communicating with customers. We pride ourselves on our outstanding service so it is vital that you have excellent communications skills.
Applicant must be enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the apple brand and its full range of products, and be able to advise customers on the best product and/or service for their individual needs.
Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years commercial experience with Apple products.
- Detailed knowledge of Apple hardware and software.
- Strong technical problem solving skills.
- Basic knowledge of computer networking including home networks and small offices.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- High attention to detail when repairing machines.
- Current ACMT / ACHT accreditation
Desirable
- Experience with Apple software such as iLife® and iWork®.
- Experience with Apple professional software such as Final Cut Studio, Logic Studio and Aperture.
- Awareness of troubleshooting applications such as Adobe CS (primarily 4) and Quark.
- Previous sales experience.
- Previous experience with colour laser printers.
The person

Technical Consultant / Workshop Manager
Role description:
Often working alone or with another, you will be part of SL Electrotech's professional field engineering and consultancy team
You will be responsible for providing on-site support to high-demand businesses aswell as home workers.
Work load is varied ranging from one off visits to performing regular maintenance trips to clients' premises
You will need to be able to work well under pressure, be extremely resourceful and organised when faced with a difficult challenge
Field responsibilities
- On demand technical support to our clients.
- Online management of client equipment such as servers, switches and routers.
- Ensuring the safety of client's data.
- Design of complex network topology and server infrastructures.
- Some out-of-hours support to some clients
In-house responsibilities
- Overseeing the service department, such as delegating workload, providing second line support and making sure the service we provide is of a consistent high quality.
- Providing a solid marketing skill to promote our business via the web and e-mail
- Maintaining our in-house Apple, Linux and Windows systems
- Maintaining our VoIP and analogue telephone systems
- Managing our proprietary CRM systems
Requirements
- Solid knowledge of business server OS's including Windows 2000 Server (Standard and SBS), Linux (Debian) and Mac OS X Server (10.5 and 10.6)
- Solid experience with business hardware systems including server-end PC's and Apple Xserve's
- Experience with domain technologies such as OpenDirectory (OpenLDAP) or Active Directory including setting up PAM and NSS to use LDAP on Linux systems.
- Experience with VMware Server 2.
- Solid understanding of LAN's and WAN's including internet telephony, complex routing, switching.
- Full driving licenc.e
Desireable
- CCNA accreditation
- Experience with Asterisk including dialplan's and AGI calls.
- PHP / MySQL (for our CRM and Website)
- ACSA accreditation
- Previous experience with colour laser printers.
- Previous experience of eCommerce packages such as Actinic Business.
